Transitional Pastor
The Rev. Fred Harrell
Transitional Pastor

Fred is a native of Florida and a graduate of the University of Florida, where he played football, and Reformed Theological Seminary. In 1996, he founded City Church San Francisco and led it to a congregation of more than 1,800 members. During that time, the church spawned auxiliary ministries in Counseling, Education, and Social Transformation. A decade later, he helped the church move from the very conservative Presbyterian Church in America denomination to the Reformed Church in America and in 2015 to an open and affirming position for those in the LGBTQ community.

Last year, Fred established "Cultivate," a ministry dedicated to promoting the well-being of pastors and fostering thriving churches. In February, he transferred his ministerial credentials to the Presbyterian Church USA and is a member of the Presbytery of San Francisco.

Currently, Fred is pursuing certification as a Spiritual Director through the Art of Spiritual Direction program offered by San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Fred and his wife, Terely (her name rhymes with the tire brand "Pirelli"), have been married since 1986 and have four adult children ranging from 33 to 26 years old.
