COMMITTEES

The many committees of Stone Church are key to the church’s function and mission.  For more info on how you can help with one of our committees, visit a meeting, or a join a committee, contact the church!

Buildings and Grounds

Buildings and Grounds is dedicated to supporting and maintaining the physical buildings and grounds of the church.  We organize Work Days and Gardening Projects, including longer term initiatives that beautify the church interior as well as the grounds

Christian Education

Christian Education supports the lifelong learning of all children of God, young and old. The committee oversees Adult Education, which takes place after worship on Sundays, as well as Church School, for ages 4 through 5th grade; Stepping Stones, the Stone Church Children’s Choir; Youth Group, for 6th-12th grade; Nursery and Preschool; and the two Stone Church Libraries.

Membership and Communications

Membership and Communications plans and organizes fellowship events – from dinners to picnics to hikes, bringing new members into Stone Church and brainstorming creative ways to bring people together to share their lives and faith.  M&C also supports the external communications of the church.  Housed within M&C are several additional ministries, including Deaf Ministry, Women’s Retreat, Healthy Community Ministry, and Stephen Ministry.

  • Stephen Ministry – Stephen Ministers are formally-trained church members who supplement pastoral care, providing 1-to-1 support at no cost.
  • Women’s Retreat – members who meet throughout the year to plan the annual overnight Women’s Retreat in the spring
  • Deaf Ministry – reaches out to the local deaf community and provides ASL at Sunday worship services and other church activities year-round
  • Healthy Community Ministry – develops programs that encourage health and wellness amongst the congregation

Stewardship

The Stewardship Committee works to inspire and facilitate the contributions of all members to the church, whether financially or through volunteering or other support. To this end, the committee organizes the annual pledge drive and Consecration Sunday celebration in October, and the Volunteer Celebration in the spring.  Stewardship collaborates closely with Budget and Finance on financial planning for the church, including capital campaigns.

StoneWorks

Stoneworks leads Stone Church’s mission and social justice efforts, both in our community and in concert with Presbyterian Church (USA) and other national and international partners. Some of our ongoing partners include Loaves and Fishes, Sacred Heart, Willow Glen Cares, Next Door Solutions, Razing the Bar, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Zephyr Point, Recovery Café of San Jose, People Acting In Community Together (PACT), and several special offerings.

Worship

The Worship Committee oversees many non-pastoral aspects of the worship services at Stone Church, including Sunday mornings and the Taize services.  The committee helps guide activities such as Ushering, Communion, Liturgical Arts, Flowers, Music and more.  The committee particularly supports our Liturgical Arts program, which  plans and produces various hand-crafted works of art to adorn the church and sanctuary.
