angels Leadership at Stone
Those who serve at Stone Church as elected officers and members of committees are the keys to our ministry. Accepting a role in the church's leadership is an appropriate response to Christ's call for all the people of God to be ministers of the Gospel. Because our leadership is broad-based, employing the gifts of many people across the full scope of the church's ministry and mission, there are places for every interest, every talent, every person.

Session
The Session is the principal governing body responsible for the mission and government of the church consisting of the pastors and elders in active service. Elders are nominated by the Nominating Committee and elected by the congregation to serve three-year terms beginning in July. Seven elders are elected each year for three-year terms, for a total of 21 elders serving on Session. This includes one youth elder, who is also elected for three years.

In addition to handling the administration of the church's government, the Session is also responsible for providing leadership and direction in the determination of the church's mission. Session meets the third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 PM. Session meetings are open.

Budget Review
The Budget Review Committee is composed of the Chairs of all the Session committees. It convenes near the end of the church year with the function to establish the detailed working budget for the next year. Each committee has a budget, broken down to specific activities and expenses. The Session has the responsibility to approve the church budget.

Buildings & Grounds
B&G is responsible for the care of church property. The committee oversees regular maintenance, organizes work days and engages in long-term planning for the facility. The work of this committee involves both "hands on" labor and thought. Members develop special relationships as they work as a team in service to the church. To share your interests and talents with the Buildings and Grounds Committee, contact the church office.

Christian Education
In March 1995, the San Jose Mercury-News named Stone as one of the four best churches in the Valley for families with children. The Christian Education Committee oversees and coordinates the entire CE program at Stone Church, dividing its work among:
  • the Nursery Subcommittee;
  • Children's Subcommittee;
  • Youth Subcommittee;
  • Adult Education Subcommittee; and the
  • Library Subcommittee.

Fellowship & Renewal
The F&R Committee coordinates programs that focus on building a sense of community among the members of Stone Church, while reaching out to promote our presence as a Christian community in the Willow Glen neighborhood and the Santa Clara Valley. F&R aids us as we welcome visitors and provides opportunities for Christian fellowship and social gatherings which strengthen us to proclaim the Gospel to the world. It is the group who supports the communication of Stone Church, including this web site.

Health Ministries
The Stone Church Health Ministry Committee provides a church-based health ministry which is a ministry to the whole person - body, mind and spirit - and assists with the promotion of health and wellness for church members and the community.

Nominating Committee
The Nominating Committee consists of representatives from the Session, the various committees and the congregation at large. It is charged with prayerfully discerning the gifts of Stone Church members and bringing forward a slate of candidates for election to the offices of the church. For more information, contact the church office.

Personnel & Administration
The Personnel and Administration Committee consists of two members of Session and four members selected for the congregation at large. The ministry of the P&A Committee is to enable the Session to fulfill its responsibility to provide for personnel and administrative services for the church, and to coordinate activities among all the groups which both serve and utilize our facilities.

Stewardship
Stewardship is the task of providing, through prayer, study and service, an effective program of stewardship interpretation and education for Stone Church. The work goes on throughout the year as it encourages members to understand stewardship as care for God's gifts and response to Christ's grace.

Stone Works
The purpose of the Stone Works Committee is to administer mission programs and be a supportive influence and resource for the congregation in its ministries for compassion, concern and transformation in the local community and the world. We actively support local mission. For many years, we were part of a rotating homeless shelter. The Committee invites church members to consider service to this ministry.
