Rebecca Ann Kuiken, former Associate Pastor
The Rev. Rebecca Ann Kuiken was installed as Associate Pastor of Stone Church in October 1997. She served as our Associate Pastor from that time, through August 16, 2006.
Her roots are Midwestern, Dutch, and Presbyterian with all four grandparents raised in Dutch-speaking communities in Iowa and Wisconsin.
She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts in French and Political Science, then studied in France as a Fulbright Scholar and later did graduate work in religion at the Harvard Divinity School.
She received the Master of Divinity Degree from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1985. She was ordained in 1986.
Before coming to Stone Church, Rebecca ministered in the Bay Area for over a decade. From January 1993 to early 1997 she was Director of Communications for San Francisco Theological Seminary, leading the Seminary's publications and public relations efforts. Prior to that time she was the Hunger Action Enabler for the Presbytery of San Francisco (1991-1992) and was Executive Director of the Interreligious Council of Oakland (1985-1988). At the time the Council was a nonprofit coalition of 40 congregations formed to address urban social issues.
At Stone Church her specific areas of leadership were in spiritual formation, women's ministry, mission, family and youth. Church members recognized her as a gifted preacher and worship leader. She shared leadership in the contemplative Taizé prayer services, and began nine Soulfeast groups in which 80 women participated. She was Vice Moderator of San Jose Presbytery in 2005, and Moderator in 2006.
Rebecca and her husband, David Minehart, have two red-headed daughters: Marika and Janna. In the fall of 2006, Marika started college, while Janna continued in High School.
