Men's Work Trip Nov 2015

  • DSC 0137 Friday afternoon we begin by exploring the area. This is the playground Stone Church men (along with over 200 other volunteers) helped build in October 2007.
  • DSC 0132 The playground has a wall bordering the steep slope down to the creek. The entire wall is covered in mosaic; part of that is shown here.
  • DSC 0131 Here's another view of the playground. Those building it (Oct. 2007) worked through a very rainy week and in thick mud. Ah, memories!
  • DSC 0091 Uphill from the main camp area there are storage tanks that hold spring water. On the left is one of the present tanks; to the right is one (of two) new and larger ones being built.
  • DSC 0095 We're looking inside the new water tank.
  • DSC 0096 No, it's not a landing pad for Martians. It's the foundation for the second (of two) new water tanks.
  • DSC 0097 This machine was parked near the water tanks. We jokingly called it "Art's new toy." (Pending spousal approval, of course.)
  • DSC 0086 One of the yurts on the hill near the water tanks.
  • DSC 0089 The Cargo Net is part of a challenge course campers enjoy going through.
  • DSC 0088 This lookout house is also on the hill near the water tanks.
  • DSC 0118 Saturday morning it's time for us to get busy. Here's a view of the Westminster Woods shop, where we gathered for assignments.
  • DSC 0116 Near the shop, another of "Art's new toys."
  • DSC 0115 Looking toward the dining hall (far in the distance) from the shop. On the right is housing for some staff members.
  • DSC 0076 Some of us install a second layer of sheetrock on the ceiling of a room in the shop. This will form a fire break. L-R: Jordy Pearson (Westminster Woods staff), Phil Curtis and Leland Wong.
  • DSC 0078 L-R: Steve Nelson, Jordy, Phil, Gabriel Faber and Leland. Space was very tight yet the heavy sheetrock needed many hands.
  • DSC 0110 Organization and chaos meet in this wall inside the shop.
  • DSC 0106 Jordy and Leland fastening sheetrock to the ceiling.
  • DSC 0103 Leland and Steve continue fastening the sheetrock.
  • DSC 0111 Another view of the shop, a heart's delight to busy craftspeople.
  • DSC 0128 It's lunch time, and a group of middle school kids enjoying Westminster Woods' "Novemberbash" event gather outside.
  • DSC 0126 Lunch is served!!
  • DSC 0124 Stone Church fellows also gather for lunch. L-R: Leland, Gabriel, Art, Lawrence and Phil.
  • DSC 0144 Just outside the dining hall is this artistic treatment of a small stream.
  • DSC 0188 After lunch, the kids' "Novemberbash" activities continue.
  • DSC 0183 Lawrence and Art continue with their work replacing light fixtures.
  • DSC 0081a Photo processing software can sometimes be weird. In this photo the software thinks there are THREE faces that need names: Lawrence, Art and the clock at upper right. (Note the "unnamed" tags.)
  • DSC 0140 A lovely merging of facility buildings and forest.
  • DSC 0146 The Craft Shack.
  • DSC 0154 The Sherwood Forest outdoor theatre. Stone Church men and many other volunteers helped build this facility in about 2004.
  • DSC 0158 Floor detail at the Sherwood Forest outdoor theatre.
  • DSC 0161 Part of a challenge course that runs about a mile (slight exaggeration) above the creek below.
  • DSC 0165 One of the footbridges that Stone Church men helped build in October 2009.
  • DSC 0168 Far up the road along the creek is where we split logs into firewood on many visits.
  • DSC 0171 Cliffs are nearby; here a tree's roots are exposed due to erosion.
  • DSC 0177 Wood chewing insects have been busy on this piece of what is now firewood.
  • DSC 0180 Tall redwoods are reflected in a stream pool. Due to the drought, the stream was very low and mostly consisted of small pools here and there.
  • DSC 0182 Hung outside a building, these bagels were placed there by kids in a recently concluded environmental program. They're for feeding birds.
  • DSC 0190 Fall colors near the main office.
  • DSC 0081 Lawrence (L) and Art with one of the light fixtures they installed.
  • DSC 0191 The sheetrock crew. L-R: Phil, Leland, Steve and Gabriel. Not shown: Jordy and Rod Thorn.
