Who We Are
We are the Northern California Ecumenical Media Resource Center.  We provide our community of churches with workshops, staff consultation, and up-to-date media resources to support their Christian education and church ministry programs.  An ecumenical board of directors from our sponsoring denominations guides us.
We are a nonprofit library and invite churches of all faith families to join and share the resources.  We enjoy the active support of three denominations: Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ, and United Methodist Church.  See Join Us to learn about membership.
A Brief History
In 1969, the Institute for Editorial Research founded the Northern California Ecumenical Media Resource Center originally to serve Northern California and Nevada.  A group of Christian Educators saw the need to share resources in order to support their Christian Education programs.  A grant from the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, United Church of Christ and the Roman Catholic Church enabled us to establish the Media Resource Center.
Under the leadership of Presbyterian Pastor and preeminent educator, Dr. Donald Griggs, the center grew rapidly.  Over 120 members from Catholic, Congregational, Presbyterian and United Methodist churches utilized the shared resources at the Media Resource Center.
Several founding principles have guided us through the years:
  * Open to all churches
  * Strong support for ecumenical projects
  * New library resources added on a regular basis
  * Members can suggest new materials for purchase
  * Low cost to become a member church
  * Flexible due dates and no late charges
The Media Resource Center began in the First United Methodist Church of Palo Alto.  In 1972, it moved to the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Clara.  Currently, the library is located at the United Methodist Church of Campbell.
